Meet Tio Antonio ('Uncle Tony'). After realizing the lack of opportunities in the country for individuals with disabilities, Tio Antonio created Cafe de las Sonrisas, along with a Hammock shop, both which only employ individuals with disabilities. We met him on our second day in Granada, and were immediately inspired by both his vision and words. He said to us, "I want you to enjoy Nicaragua, but also really SEE Nicaragua," meaning get to know the history and culture of the country, and look at it more than from a tourist's point of view. He also said to us, "Your camera is your power." We are able to share these stories from countries that people may not know much about. He wanted us to share his story of Cafe de las Sonrias and the change that he is creating, with the hope that it will inspire others to do the same. Meeting him so early in our trip, and hearing his powerful words, left us all with a lasting impression and the intention to create something worthwhile throughout our trip.
