The U.S Senate just approved an $80 billion annual increase in #military
spending so that #Trump
can fulfill his promise of “great rebuilding of the armed services.” This puts the U.S. annual military budget at around $700 billion- the amount of tax dollars spent during the height of the #Afghanistan
With $80 billion a year- the US could offer higher #education
for FREE. Bernie #Sanders
proposed that it would cost the federal #government
around $47B per year for tuition-free colleges and universities.
The Intercept puts it into perspective: with a $700 billion military budget, the U.S. would be spending more than three times as much as China on its military, and 10 times as much as Russia. According to SIPRI, the U.S. already accounts for more than a third of all military spending.
A country that spends more on war than on education is anything but civilized! It's time to DISMANTLE THE MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX to redirect defense funds to education, health care, and economic security!
